Rumors and Other Things of Interest

Several media outlets are reporting talks between the Mets and Red Sox about a Angel Pagan, Coco Crisp trade. Theo Epstein denies the talks.


Joel Sherman (NY Post) writes that the Mets have chatted with the Blue Jays about OF's Shannon Stewart and Reed Johnson. I like the idea of Reed Johnson as he can play all three outfield positions. With Carlos Beltran's knees an early season (maybe longer) concern, he'd be a good addition. Not sure I want Stewart.

Pedro had a 59 pitch simulated outing and threw pain free (always good news!) His comments afterwards...

“I think the stamina’s there, the strength is there to go over four innings…I got a little more than 55 pitches and still felt pretty good…Today, I just felt like I was starting to warm up. I’m thinking, if it was a real game and I felt so good, it would have been the same. The key is just to feel healthy, and I really felt that today. Looks like Angel Pagan (if not traded) will head north when camp breaks. (18 Spring Training hits, including a HR today .....please save a couple for Shea Stadium, Angel)

We'll get our first look at Luis Castillo at 2nd this afternoon. Little has been written about this move, but i feel much better now hat I know that 2nd will no longer be a revolving door. I like his speed, his bat and his defense. I think Castillo will be one of the keys to the season.

Scott Schoeneweis is rumored to be on the trading block. I know he wasn't a fan favorite and could not get outs at Shea, but he pitched pretty well on the road last year. I hope they get something of value for him...we'll see.
